Discover the history of Lindeth Fell — a luxury country house in Cumbria

Edwardian leisured luxury

Lindeth Fell has been a holiday destination for most of its history; built on a steep hillside to gain spectacular views, the appeal is undeniable.

1907

Built by the Pattinsons

The house is complete – and called Tremlo, (we don’t know why). Built on 26 acres acquired from the Storrs Estate. The name was changed to Lindeth Fell in 1913. The structure of the gardens, that so cleverly sit the house into a steeply sloping site, was completed in 1909 with terraces that step down the hill.

1911

The Consensus

Mary Lings is renting Lindeth Fell – the widow of a wealthy Manchester textile manufacturers. Her son Colin marries Doris Clegg, the daughter of fellow Manchester industrialists living at Holbeck Ghyll. Photos from the family albums show the house and family before and after the First World War.

1978

The house becomes a hotel

The house is converted to a hotel. Like many country houses through the mid 20th century its maintenance became too costly for preceding owners. Much of its surrounding land was sold, and the remaining plot was bought by a Mr D Ashton.

1984

Family ownership

Lindeth Fell is bought by Air Commodore Pat Kennedy, a highly decorated WWII Hurricane Pilot, and his wife Dianne, an air stewardess in the pioneer days of air travel. They revive Lindeth’s tradition of relaxed and generous hospitality. Their daughters also join the family business, and eventually in 2014 Lindeth becomes a 5 Star B&B.

2023

Reunited with Storrs

Following the family retirement in 2023, Lindeth Fell is purchased by Mark Hindle, joining the Storrs Collection as a sister property to nearby Storrs Hall Hotel. A new team is recruited, bringing a wealth of hospitality experience with them to support long standing staff members. The interiors are subtly but luxuriously revamped, and the hospitality enhanced to make guests feel perfectly at home.  History repeats itself when Lindeth Fell returns to being part of the Storrs Hall Estate.
